Preliminary
drawings are an essential first step in the process of designing
and building a log or timber home. They offer an accurate, scaled
representation of each project, illustrating overall layout, as
well as providing an excellent tool for establishing an accurate
budget.
After
developing a preliminary set of drawings, changes to the initial
design can be made without affecting construction time or adding
significant costs to the budget. Once any changes to the preliminary
drawings have been completed, Log Knowledge is able to create construction
drawings ready for building permit submittal.
LOG
SELECTION
Log Knowledge carefully selects its logs from the finest Rocky Mountain
trees, ensuring that each project is built with the highest quality,
most beautiful logs available. Log Knowledge has built with logs
as large as 48 inches in diameter, and can build with logs of any
size. Standard house logs selected for projects average 10 to 12
inches in diameter. Log work is done primarily with naturally tapered
Lodgepole Pine, Engelmann Spruce and Douglas Fir/Larch timber.
FABRICATION
In order to reveal the individual, natural character and beauty
of each log, the craftsmen at Log Knowledge select and hand-peel
each log for every project. Connections between logs are hand-scribed
and notched to match the unique contour of the adjacent logs in
the structure.
Each
log shell or structure is handcrafted and pre-assembled at the Log
Knowledge facility in Northern Colorado. Handcrafting each log structure
at one central location ensures quality control, allows Log Knowledge
craftsmen to have a virtually unlimited supply of logs to select
from as they build, and provides the most cost efficient means for
supplying equipment and labor.
